Wes Anderson Video Essays

John pointed me toward a series of five video essays on Wes Anderson at Moving Image Source.

The text is on the left, but look for the video links on the right. The piece is definitely better watched than read.

Things really get going come the second video, so I may recommend that you begin there. The recap tells you everything you need to know about the compare / contrasty first video.

I've seen this. I like the part about Hal Ashby being basically superior in every way, though I think Shampoo is more than the light comedy they present it as.

The visual references to 400 Blows were new to me. I wish the writer had talked more about the shared sensibilities between Wes Anderson and Truffaut i.e. the assertion of a particular dramatic POV as a structuring tool.
